Is a medical exam required for the Golden Visa application?

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, a medical exam is generally not required as part of the standard Golden Visa application process in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, there are some important considerations regarding medical examinations in the context of visa applications in the UAE:

  1. Visa Categories: While a medical exam is not typically required for the standard Golden Visa Dubai categories like real estate investors, entrepreneurs, skilled professionals, and outstanding students, there are specific visa categories that may require medical assessments. For example, employment visas in certain industries, such as healthcare, may involve medical tests to ensure that individuals are fit for work in those sectors.

  2. Dependent Visas: When applying for dependent visas for family members, especially parents or elderly relatives, the immigration authorities may request medical certificates or health assessments to determine the health status of the applicants. This is particularly relevant for individuals sponsoring elderly family members or those with pre-existing medical conditions.

  3. Pre-Existing Health Conditions: In some cases, individuals with certain pre-existing medical conditions may be asked to provide medical reports or clearance from a UAE-approved medical center to confirm their ability to reside in the country. This is to ensure that they can access healthcare services and do not pose a public health risk.

  4. Vaccination Requirements: The UAE may have vaccination requirements for certain visa categories, especially for children. Applicants may need to provide proof of vaccination as part of the visa application process.

  5. Periodic Health Screenings: While a comprehensive medical examination is generally not required for standard Golden Visa applications, individuals residing in the UAE for an extended period may undergo periodic health screenings or checks as part of the country's public health programs.

  6. Health Insurance: Regardless of whether a medical exam is required for the visa application, all residents and visa holders in the UAE should have comprehensive health insurance coverage to ensure access to medical services and to meet visa requirements.

It's important to note that immigration policies and requirements can change over time, and specific medical examination requirements may vary based on the visa category and individual circumstances. Therefore, individuals considering a Golden Visa or any other type of visa in the UAE should consult the latest guidelines and regulations provided by the UAE's immigration authorities and seek guidance from qualified immigration consultants or legal experts to ensure compliance with the current requirements and procedures. Additionally, they should be prepared to meet any potential health-related requirements as requested during the visa application process.
